Mars Hill University, an academic community rooted in the Christian faith, challenges and equips students to pursue intellectual; spiritual, and personal growth that is grounded in a rigorous study of the Liberal Arts; connected with the world of work; and committed to character development, to service, and to responsible citizenship in the community, the region, and the world.

Mars Hill’s student-to-teacher ratio is 1:12. The university offers 5 degrees, 31 majors, and 30 minors, as well as a graduate program, the Master of Education. Mars Hill student athletes compete in 18 sports at the NCAA Division II level, plus cycling in the NCCA (MHC cycling finished the 2010-11 season as the #1 ranked team in Division II). Intramural and club sports are also available and include floor hockey, flag football, ultimate Frisbee, softball, basketball, volleyball, mountain biking, whitewater, dodgeball; and disc golf. The university also has 43 clubs and organizations.

Mars Hill is proud of its roots. The university is home to the Liston B. Ramsey Center for Regional Studies, which includes the Southern Appalachian Room, the Rural Life Museum, the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Festival, the 19- time National Champion Bailey Mountain Cloggers, and the Regional Studies academic program.

Mars Hill is the oldest university in Western North Carolina on its original site, and celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2006.
