Thursday, April 14, Doors open 6 – 8 pm
The physiopsychology class at Mars Hill University, taught by Dr. Ann Peiffer, together with the TriBeta Honors Biology Club and the Psychology Club, will be hosting an event called MIND2: MHU Investigates Neurons, Disorders, and Disease.” The walk-through event will take approximately an hour. Participants in the program will be able to get a fascinating glimpse into the world of the brain by viewing several brains on loan from Wake Forest Medical Center.

Bailey Mountain Cloggers Spring Concert
“The Wicked Dancer of Oz”
April 15-16, 7 pm; April 17, 3 pm
Moore Auditorium, Tickets: $10
Creating a new take on the classic “The Wizard of Oz”, the 21-time National Champion cloggers will dazzle audiences with their percussive footwork. The program will include the Bailey Mountain Cloggers’ award winning traditional and contemporary styles of clogging while incorporating Irish dancing, hip hop, lyrical and other forms of dance, which will be sure to leave you in awe. Wind Symphony Concert
Tuesday, April 19, 7:30 PM, Moore Auditorium
Directed by Michael L. Robinson, Director of Bands. Musical selections include Sea Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Children’s March by Percy Grainger, Fusion by Brian Balmages, Overcome arranged by Bill Locklear and The Sinfonians by Clifton Williams. The soloist for the evening will be Alan Theisen, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Music, who will perform Bernhard Heiden’s Diversion for Alto Saxophone and Concert Band with the ensemble.

Percussion Ensemble Concert
Thursday, April 21, 7:30 PM, Moore Auditorium
Directed by Dr. Brian Tinkel, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies, and Mr. Justin Mabry, Adjunct Professor of Music. The concert will showcase different types of performing ensembles for percussion. The concert begins with a series of Trinidadian Steel Band tunes arranged for the Marimba Band. The West African Ensemble will play several styles of traditional music. The concert will conclude with the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble playing in the style of Samba Batúcada. Josh Goforth Concert

Josh Goforth is an accomplished, Grammy –nominated old-time musician performer who is best known for his fiddling, which was shaped by growing up in Madison County where he learned from many people, including master fiddlers Arvil and Gordon Freeman.
This event is part of the Presidential Lecture and Performance Series at MHU

Senior Student Artists Jessica Woodburn and Heather Styles
April 18 – May 9, 2016
Weizenblatt Gallery at Mars Hill University will feature the work of senior student artists Jessica Woodburn and Heather Styles, from April 18 through the end of the spring 2016 semester. There will be an opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, April 22, from 6 to 8 pm. Woodburn’s exhibition, Kairos, includes works that combine abstract painting with photography, using various unconventional materials and methods. Styles’ exhibition, “Everyday Roles,” Her consists of self-imagery which is manipulated through sewing, layers, and three-dimensional display.

Appalachia a Century Ago:  Craft through the Lens of William A. Barnhill
Liston B. Ramsey Center for Regional Studies
January – July, 2016
The exhibition showcases Barnhill’s photographs of western North Carolina residents demonstrating traditional crafts and a bark basket made by Dave Penland, a Confederate veteran whom William Barnhill visited and photographed in 1915 in Beech, North Carolina, near Weaverville.  The Barnhill exhibition was made possible through the inspiration and generosity of Bill Alexander of Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Carolina Mountains: The Photography of Margaret Morley
Rural Heritage Museum
February 27 – May 31, 2016
Featuring more than 50 prints made from the 244 original Appalachian mountain photographs by Margaret Morley, this exhibition comes from a collection of works donated to the Museum of History in 1914.
