SART is Embarking on a New Adventure: Catch Us On The Road!

With Owen Theatre closed for renovations, we’re off to play at area high schools.

Our beloved Owen Theatre will be closed for renovations while neighboring Day Hall is under construction. So we are thrilled with the creative partnerships we’ve arranged with area high school administrators and drama teachers allowing us to bring SART performances to high school audiences and the broader public.

You’ll find us on the campus of three Buncombe County high schools presenting the hit musical Pump Boys and Dinettes, in which the ensemble performs on guitars, bass, piano and (yes) kitchen utensils. This fun and energetic musical fictionally happens somewhere on a two-lane highway between Frog Level and Smyrna in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  There’s a bit of dancin’ and romancin’ involved and, suffice it to say, Dolly Parton winds up as a significant lyric.

Catch us if you can: Pump Boys and Dinettes

  • Enka High School for a two weekend run, from June 19-28, 2015.
  • North Buncombe High School from July 10-19, 2015.
  • Owen High School in Black Mountain from July 24 to August 2, 2015.

At each of the three venues we’ll also present “As Time Goes By,” a cabaret of songs from the Silver Screen, on Sunday evenings in June and July.

Radio Gals, End-of-Summer Show at Crest Mountain

To complete our summer season of music and hilarity, we will close out our artistic calendar with our own bananas rendition of the uncorked and exuberant musical, Radio Gals, at the Crest Mountain Dinner Show just west of downtown, August 5-16, 2015.

As a special option at Crest Mountain, tickets may be purchased for the show only, or as a dinner and show package! This is an exclusive engagement and further information is available on the Crest Mountain Dinner Show website, crestmountainpresents.com.

We are really excited about this opportunity — born of necessity this year — to bring professional theater into school environments since, in addition to the performances, it gives us a chance to workshop with students and introduce them to all sorts of aspects of putting on a show.

This season promises  to be both fun and rewarding. We hope you will find a way to “catch us if you can” as we travel around our community presenting the fresh and inventive work of our professional company.
