2015 Collegiate Road National Championships

USA Cycling has partnered with Mars Hill University and the Asheville-Buncombe Regional Sports Commission to host the 2015 Collegiate Road National Championships in the Asheville and Marshall areas Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10.

The three days of races will feature local schools such as Mars Hill University, Brevard College, and Warren Wilson College and a total of 400 riders from more than 100 colleges and universities from across the country.

Friday, May 8 – Road Race
The first race will be a Road Race on Friday, May 8 with two races starting at 8:00 and 12:00.  This race will require rolling road closures.  This means that for much of the day roads will remain open and you can expect to travel normally without delay.  The exceptions will be short periods of time when cars will be required to pull off the roads as the cyclists make their way down each section of the road.  The racing cyclists will be preceded by police officers directing traffic to pull off to the side of the road. Once the last cyclist goes by the officers will instruct cars to continue on their way.  These delays are expected to be five minutes or less.

Saturday, May 9 — This race will be held in Downtown Asheville.

Sunday, May 10 – Time Trial, in Marshall
The second race will take place on Sunday, May 10 from 8:30am until approximately 6 pm.  This event is a Time Trial race that will begin at The Depot in Marshall and cyclists will travel down NC 251 to a turn-around point at Lower Flat Creek Rd. at which time the athletes will return to Marshall.

During this event NC 251 will be closed to traffic from The Depot in Marshall to Lower Flat Creek Road. If traveling in this area, please plan to use an alternative route.  If you live within the route please let us know and we will arrange for you to come and go from your home in a manner that is safe for you and the cyclists. Marshall will be accessible at all times from Baileys Branch and North Main Street.
